Is it just me or did anyone also feel like the reviewer REALLY didn’t get what the Duo was all about?

Windows Phone was great. It's down fall was app support. But Windows mobile was great. I liked it better than Android, but for some reason Android is king and had all the apps. Go figure.

I wouldn't say that no one wanted a WP, that alone makes the "thumbs down" justifiable, you just sound like a hater. it certainly wasn't a popular device but I knew quite some people who wanted it but the lack of Apps drove them away. I had a few. Started with WP7 all the way to the Nokia lineup...I'd love to have it again but, it is what it is

I actually liked the old Windows Phone tho. It would do as a phone but not smart. If there was an app support, I would still rock that.

This thing is waaayyy too wide in one-screen mode. Needs to be narrower by like half an inch on each side. Also, Reilly did not do a great job with this. A lot of the things he complained about made no sense and some were even good things from a productivity standpoint.

I miss my Windows 10 Mobile (Windows Phone) Lumia950XL. After I shattered that screen I had to go from a Pocket PC to a phone (I've had both iPhone and Adroid phones not Pocket PC)

I remember going into an AT&T store to upgrade to the next windows phone generation. All the floor samples for the new windows phones were no where in sight. Had to get a manager to get one from the back so I could look at it. It was like pulling teeth the whole way. To this day, I believe they actively hid them from customers. They also did not know a thing about this product and kept trying to push the android or iphone sale.

What this needs is support for two-user game pass cloud streaming. Put it in tent mode, grab a pair of xbox controllers and you've each got your own display.

I've had iPhones, Android phones, and a Windows phone. There was nothing wrong with Windows phone, it was just too late to the party and couldnt get market traction to reach its full potential.

This concept is cool but the poor performance with SD 855 and touching once screen collapsing the keyboard on the other... Plus, the device's internals are not balanced at all. I know that this is a first-gen device but even first-gen Galaxy Fold had much less trouble going for it. Yikes.

The last phone Microsoft released before this was the Microsoft Lumia 950 XL in 2015.

I was expecting a lot more from them. I like the basic concept but really can't get behind this. IMHO the screen aspect ratio is just wrong for this. Pen support should have been a standard feature and this thing should come with one. I would not expect to be able to do two things at the same time on both screens, but I'd expect that the keyboard wouldn't close on one screen when you touch the other.

What an inept concept, Android on a Microsoft device... Microsoft slapping itself with the Android hand... is this your idea of innovation?

I don't understand people's dislike of Bing and Edge. I have been using them exclusively for five years and they have met every need. I have a coworker who cringes when i use Bing. But when i showed him some of its features, he thought that they were pretty interesting. And after he bashed Edge for not having some feature that Chrome has (cached websites), i proved him wrong by simply opening the Settings menu and activating the feature within Edge. And i have done the same thing with Bing to prove that it works just fine.

@8:47 and it's mostly controlled with android native interfaces wait until your mind starts to fade as you get old or your disabled and didn't choose to learn to different ecosystems both a laptop os and some other major brand interface as it changes and updates all the time. This is precisely why windows phone was good the controls for both had been put together into one. Now we would have to find a trainer phone to get used to how we interface with things we need on a daily basis.

The lack of simultaneous multi-touch input across the two screens, a bad camera & sluggish performance are a major issue for me. I cannot fathom buying this device at its current cost.

Had a windows phone and it took to Android 10 to get to the level I was at in 2016. For the record Windows phone were great productivity devices. I did not do Facebook etc back then so the windows phone did everything I needed to do and I so wish it could get it again.

If third party developers had adopted support for Windows phone, I firmly believe it would still be a viable alternative today. Compared to iOS and Android, it was MUCH more polished, more stable, and had some really cool features when compared to rivals during the same time period. In fact, I still have my HTC 8X, and sometimes I boot it up just to play around with it. And even today, it still feels snappy, still feels more advanced than either iOS or Android, and really makes me wish it had survived.

I wanted and had a couple of windows phones

This product is straight trash. Poor reception, poor connectivity, software bugs, charging port will crack, if you buy to test it out do not do so through AT&T. After the 14 days, you will be stuck in purgatory with a poorly designed piece of beautiful crap because Microsoft will only give you the same piece of crap over and over again while under warranty. Meanwhile, you have to deal with wasted money on skins and screen protectors and time of switching phones (7-10 business days without a phone if you don't have another one laying around) time of dealing with pitiful customer service and time of redownloading apps and contacts... Trust me folks, I thought this product was the bees knees after I figured out the functionality of it. But you can only drop so many calls, deal with not being able to make calls in normal places you should because of the poor antenna, or deal with the frustration of the poor Bluetooth and wifi connectivity before you want to pull your hair out. Stay away from the device. Wait for the next one maybe...this product shouldn't be anyone's daily driver especially for $1500! It is a ball of sh!t. And this is coming from a Microsoft Surface fan boy who has pretty much bought every Surface device in the past 5 years. That ended with this phone and the poor customer service in dealing with it. Oh and the camera will drive you absolutely INSANE!!!

I wanted a windows phone, i had 2 (Lumia 820, and a 950). Still best smartphone OS ... even iOS now copied livetiles. I have iPhone 12 now, but i'm still waiting for Windows coming back into my pocket.

Suggestion : use the Microsoft SwiftKey keyboard instead of the Google one

I saw this thing at Best Buy today. It looks cools and feels really good in the hands. I love the hinges. But who is it for? The first thing that came to my mind is that it would make a great ebook reader. But not at that price.

Already use 2 ecosystems. Microsoft: My work environment. Google: My Personal environment. WANT... But I'll wait till Gen 2

I wanted a Windows phone, I still have it it was a Lumia 640 in orange. But having to develop your own apps if they weren't support was a little bit of a pain in the ass.

I’ll admit, I’m an avid Apple product fan/eco-system adopter. Some years ago, I got my wife a windows phone just to get her out of the flip phone market and couldn’t afford a new iPhone for her. Got a Nokia Lumia off Amazon for $80, man, I even loved that phone. IMO, buttery smooth operation, and a pretty intuitive UI. I truly wish we still had a 3rd competitor in the smart phone OS market, Microsoft.

Honestly? As concept I think it's a fantastic. Despite running Android, I wish it looked more Windows-y. I hope they mature it more. I see my employees getting one versus a phone AND a small tablet.

Had a Samsung Ativ Windows Phone. Essentially an S3 with Windows Phone 7 I think it was called. It was great - it had little third party apps, the ones it had didn’t work and notifications were a no go. Very peaceful!

If anyone is genuinely planning to purchase a Surface Duo, I would recommend that you start using the Microsoft launcher on your phone so you can sort of familiarize yourself with Microsoft's homescreen gestures before you receive your new device.
